These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Cardopoly's website, game client, and related services at cardopoly.io and associated subdomains (collectively, the "Service"). The Service is operated by Aditya Agarwal ("we," "us") as an independent project branded Cardopoly. By creating an account, clicking to accept, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Agreement to these Terms

You represent that you have read and understood these Terms and that you will comply with them. We may refuse access to the Service to anyone at any time, subject to applicable law. Additional terms may apply to specific features (for example, third-party authentication providers); those terms are incorporated by reference where we link to them.

2. Description of the Service

Cardopoly provides an online, multiplayer property-trading card game experience you access through a web browser or installed progressive web app (PWA). Features include matchmaking-style rooms, live gameplay over WebSockets, user profiles, leaderboards, optional social/friends features, and in-app feedback. The Service is for entertainment only.

No real-money gambling or prizes. In-game "money," "bank," rent, and card transfers are fictional mechanics inside the game rules. They have no cash value and cannot be redeemed for money or anything of value from us. We do not operate a marketplace for in-game items on the current Service.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service (including features, rules, or availability) with or without notice. We are not liable if the Service is unavailable at any time or for any period.

3. Third-party trademarks and independence

Cardopoly is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Hasbro, Inc. or any owner of the MONOPOLY® brands. MONOPOLY and related marks are trademarks of their respective owners. References to familiar game concepts on the Service are for descriptive purposes only. All other trademarks, service marks, and trade names are the property of their respective owners.

If you are a rights holder and believe the Service infringes your intellectual property, contact us at the email below with sufficient detail to assess your notice (identification of the work, location on the Service, and your contact information).

4. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, if higher) to use the Service. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed these Terms and permits your use. You represent that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms where you live.

You may not use the Service if you are barred from receiving services under applicable law (for example, sanctions or export-control restrictions) or if we have previously terminated your account for serious violations.

5. Accounts and authentication

Accounts are created and authenticated through Clerk (and optional social providers such as Google). You must provide accurate information (including email and username as required by our app) and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account unless we caused the compromise through our gross negligence.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, risk the Service or other users, or present fraud or abuse signals. When a Clerk account is deleted, our systems may deactivate the linked local profile and clear the Clerk identifier; some historical records may remain until processed per our Privacy Policy.

6. License to use the Service

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your own non-commercial entertainment, except where we expressly allow otherwise in writing.

You may not:

  • Copy, rent, lease, sell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service or our software.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code except where the law forbids this restriction.
  • Remove or alter proprietary notices, branding, or legal terms we display.
  • Use the Service to build a competing product or to scrape data at a scale that harms performance.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Cheat, exploit bugs, use unauthorized automation (bots), tamper with client or network traffic, or otherwise gain an unfair advantage.
  • Harass, threaten, abuse, or discriminate against other users; post unlawful, hateful, or violent content.
  • Upload malware, probe or attack our systems, overload infrastructure, or interfere with other users' sessions (including WebSocket disruption).
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation.
  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of export or sanctions laws.
  • Attempt to access non-public areas, admin tools, or other users' private data without permission.

We may investigate violations and cooperate with law enforcement where appropriate. Consequences may include removal of content, suspension, permanent ban, and referral to authorities.

8. Your content and feedback

8.1 Feedback and ratings

If you submit bug reports, suggestions, ratings, screenshots, or other materials through our feedback flows ("Feedback"), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store, reproduce, and display that Feedback to operate, debug, and improve the Service (including sharing internally and with hosting providers). Do not submit confidential information you cannot share or personal data of third parties without permission.

8.2 No obligation

We have no obligation to implement Feedback or respond. You retain ownership of your pre-existing rights in Feedback, subject to the license above.

9. Our intellectual property

The Service—including software, visual design, text, logos, layout, and compiled assets—is protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited license in Section 6, we reserve all rights. The name Cardopoly and associated branding are identifiers of the Service; you may not use them in a way that implies endorsement or origin without permission.

10. Gameplay, stats, and integrity

Game rules, matchmaking behavior, scoring, and statistics are determined by our game logic and servers. We may reset, recalculate, or remove stats, leaderboards, or history to correct errors, abuse, or rule changes. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free gameplay; network conditions, device differences, and server maintenance affect your experience.

11. Public profiles, leaderboards, and friends

Certain information—such as username and aggregated statistics—may be visible to other users (for example on leaderboards or profile pages). Friend requests and friendships create social graph data as described in our Privacy Policy. Choose a username you are comfortable displaying publicly.

12. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE SECURE, FREE OF VIRUSES, OR ERROR-FREE.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers; in those places, disclaimers apply only to the extent permitted.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEITHER CARDOPOLY NOR ITS OPERATOR WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF USD $50 OR THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE SIX (6) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (IF ANY). Because the Service is currently offered without a fee to end users, that amount may be USD $50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (for example, gross negligence or intentional misconduct where your jurisdiction forbids a cap).

14. Indemnification

You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Cardopoly and its operator from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your Feedback, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of third-party rights.

15. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms on this page and change the "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice (for example, a banner or email where we have your address). Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms, except where applicable law requires explicit consent.

16. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately if we believe you violated these Terms, created risk, or must do so for legal or operational reasons. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law) survive termination.

17. Governing law and disputes

Cardopoly is operated from the United States. Except where mandatory local consumer law requires otherwise, these Terms are governed by the federal laws of the United States and the laws of the U.S. state where we principally operate, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Subject to your non-waivable rights, you agree that the state and federal courts located in that state have exclusive jurisdiction and venue over disputes arising from these Terms or the Service, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

If you reside in the EEA, UK, or another region with mandatory venue or law provisions, nothing in this section limits rights you cannot waive under the law of your country of residence.

18. General

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any additional terms we post for specific features, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
